how far is [insert place] from downtown/wedding?

Yes, the wedding reception is right downtown Jackson, along with most restaurants, shops, and cutesie walkable stuff. Snow King condos are a 15min walk. The Aspens condos are a 10min drive. Teton Village condos is a 20min drive.

What dates are Ryan & Amy there?

We will arrive in Jackson early, on Wednesday September 2 to handle some logistics and take a couple days to ourselves. Wedding guests will start trickling in on Friday 9/4, with most arriving by Saturday 9/5. We plan to stay in Jackson until Friday 9/11. We are then heading into Yellowstone through the next week. Let us know if you're heading that way - it would be fun to overlap at Silver Gate or other lodging options for the evenings. Most guests are staying in Jackson until Weds/Thurs and then either going to Yellowstone or departing.

how do we get to the ceremony and reception?

We will provide a shuttle from downtown Jackson to the ceremony site, and then to the reception which is back downtown. It's only 17 minutes each way. Shuttle info will be updated as the date approaches. Parking at the ceremony site is limited per contract so please coordinate with us if you must drive yourself.

Is there uber?

Jackson DOES have rideshares like Uber. There's not a ton, so be patient or consider scheduling a ride in advance. It is very limited very late at night. Apparently there are taxis around, but I don't recall ever seeing them. Be safe!

Parking for the wedding

You'll be taking one of our shuttles to the wedding, probably from downtown Jackson. The town's public parking lots don't allow overnight parking, so find a spot on the street and read the signage. Move your vehicle by mid-morning to avoid a ticket. Or Uber, DD carpool, etc.

can i bring my kids?

Yes! Both the ceremony and reception venues allow children. We expect that you will have your family with you, given that it's a destination wedding and likely a family vacation. Please indicate their attendance in your RSVP. Note that the late afterparty at Million Dollar Cowboy Bar is 21+. There's rumors of some parents contacting a group nannying service for the day of the wedding.

I don't understand the attire

Cowboy cocktail chic? Self-explanatory! But really, it is meant to be fun so don't worry about it too much. It's a wedding so look nice, and bonus points for adding some western flare. You know us and we know our guest list, and it is safe to say it's an inherently casual group. The Hawai'i folks get bonus points if they can find pants or shoes that aren't their "good slippers".

Do we need bear spray?

Yes, yes you do. The Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem has the largest concentration of wildlife in the lower 48. If you intend to be on any trail system in the surrounding national parks or forests you should carry bear spray. There are plenty of places to rent or purchase bear spray, including at the airport when you arrive/depart. Ask your hotel's front desk if they have a stash of spray left behind by others. There is also a Facebook Group for tourists handing off unused spray: "Yellowstone and Grand Teton: Bear Spray and Equipment Exchange". You cannot fly with bear spray.

What if we forget something?

There is a small Target, REI, Whole Foods, and a couple good-sized grocery stores. Most other shops cater to tourists and have tourist prices.

Do I Need a Fishing License?

Yes, and potentially a few, and all are available online and inexpensive. It is common to be approached by park rangers to check your license and gear. Fishing inside Grand Teton National Park or surrounding Wyoming areas only requires a Wyoming license from Wyoming Game & Fish Dept. Fishing inside Yellowstone National Park requires a separate permit via Recreation.gov. Note that the northern and western edges of Yellowstone are in Montana and Idaho, so if you venture past the park boundary in those directions you'll need separate permits for those states. There is excellent fishing out there! Swing by the parks' backcountry offices for very helpful fishing regulation booklets with regional stream maps that outline the various species and gear allowances. There is a Wyoming Game visitor center across the street from the Rustic Inn in Jackson. The parks generally only allow barbless hooks so don't bring your favorite lures/flies unless you're prepared to pinch the barbs down. There are also rules around lead (weights) and artificial/live lures to protect wildlife (birds and fish).
